Apple's new Apple tree Television app will be available on Roku and Fire TV devices, plus smart TVs
This partnership makes the new streaming app available to a much wider customer base
During Apple tree's 'Show Time' upshot at the Steve Jobs Theatre, the company announced that its new Apple TV app will be available on Roku and Burn down TV devices, plus a scattering of smart TVs.
The new app is total of new features, and besides being available on all of Apple devices, like Apple TV 4K, the iPhone and iPad, it's also coming to Samsung, LG, Sony and Vizio smart TVs.
Information technology's launching on Samsung's TVs first this spring, but there'due south no specific timeline for when the app is coming to the rest of the platforms. Apple'southward new streaming platform Apple Tv+ is launching in the fall, then ideally the app will launch on these platforms before then.
This news lines upward with Apple partnering with these Television receiver manufactures to allow AirPlay 2 and iTunes on their smart TVs. AirPlay two allows Apple tree device users to stream content from the streaming service to these televisions.
This is a big motion for Apple who typically keeps its services inside its own hardware ecosystem. The first app to get in off of Apple tree's devices was Apple tree Music which launched in June of 2015 on iOS and was followed a few months later on by an Android version. More recently, it was added the Amazon's Alexa ecosystem in the U.S.
Pushing out the new Telly app to more platforms continues this trend and shows that Apple is committed to its media services and non but using them to sell more than Apple tree products.
